Biography & Metadata
Mark's new single is from a recently discovered live performance he did in Toronto in 2012 when he was touring with Cheryl Bentyne in "West Coast Cool"- It's a fun rendition of the Gershwin classic "But Not For Me" with a vocalese by the English jazz great Georgie Fame. After 22 albums across a 50-year career, Mark Winkler continues to find new ways to keep his music fresh and engaging. Two years in the making, LOVE COMES FIRST, the singer-songwriter’s latest project, features 22 of Southern California’s top jazz musicians performing in a variety of combinations. The album includes five standards and six Winkler originals, showcasing his trademark wit and romantic sensibility. Winkler’s recordings consistently receive extensive airplay and critical acclaim. As a vocalist, Winkler eschews vocal pyrotechnics in favor of intimacy, delivering performances with a warm, unpretentious voice. Whether interpreting standards or his own wry compositions, he connects deeply with lyrics that resonate on a personal level. A prolific recording artist and lyricist, Mark Winkler has remained one of the most acclaimed vocalists on the Los Angeles jazz scene and beyond. While LOVE COMES FIRST features some of the finest musicians on either coast, it is ultimately Winkler’s engaging personality and deep commitment to storytelling that make the album a standout addition to his ever-expanding body of work.
