Biography & Metadata

Umaria Sinhawansa, known professionally as Umaria, is one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated and distinctive contemporary vocalists, recognised for her powerful voice, emotional expression, and versatility across pop, R&B, jazz, and Sinhala contemporary music. Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Umaria grew up surrounded by music and began performing from a young age. Coming from a musical family, she developed a deep connection to performance, vocal expression, and artistry early in life. Her journey as a performer began publicly when she was still a child, and over the years, she has grown into one of the most respected female voices in Sri Lankan music. Umaria first gained major attention through her work in playback singing, including her early contribution to Sinhala cinema with “Pathu Pem Pathum” from the film Asai Man Piyabanna. Since then, she has continued to build a career defined by vocal excellence, genre-blending music, and memorable live performances. Her hit single “Manda Pama” became one of the defining songs of her modern career, gaining widespread popularity and earning major recognition, including Song of the Year at the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards. She has also received accolades for her playback singing, including recognition at the Sarasaviya Awards and Presidential Awards, further highlighting her contribution to Sri Lankan cinema and music.
