Mic. Carr

Mic. Carr, aka Penzel Washington, is an artist blending soul, substance, and storytelling—creating music that meets listeners in both hope and uncertainty. His sound is reflective, intentional, and grounded in lived experience. Raised in Dickson, Tennessee, Carr found his voice early—beginning with poetry at age 10 before transforming those words into music. While a student-athlete at Christian Brothers University, he began to take his artistry seriously, recognizing a path that extended beyond the game. With a decade-long run of consistency, Carr released a full body of work every year from 2015 to 2024. In 2018, he independently co-curated and completed a 6-state tour without major label backing. Now, as a core member of his band Shades, he steps into a new era of collaboration and live instrumentation—expanding his sound while staying rooted in purpose.
