A leader of a generation straddling multiple cultures, Jean invites his worldwide cult following to see themselves in his work — creating a soundtrack for kids like him, navigating identity and hybridity. His distinct sound and genre-bending ethos have earned him critical acclaim from The New York Times, NPR, Fader, V Magazine, NME, Essence, and more, and he has amassed millions of streams through his projects Pixel Bath, Bad Sports, CHAOS NOW* and Glimmer of God. His visionary art has also earned admiration from a growing list of icons. @Trent Reznor, SZA , Lil Yachty, BONES, Earl Sweatshirt and A$AP Rocky have publicly supported and collaborated with Jean, while Elton John himself has praised his artistry — a rare and powerful co-sign that underscores Jean’s cultural resonance. Most recently, Jean took home a Grammy as a featured collaborator on Beyoncé’s critically acclaimed Cowboy Carter album, marking a new milestone in an already meteoric rise. Jean Dawson is as much a visual artist as he is a musician. Born to a working-class Mexican mother and Black father, raised between Tijuana and San Diego, and educated across the border during daily five-hour treks, his art continues to challenge ideas of masculinity and societal expectation — grounded always in the lived realities of his upbringing and the duality of identity.
