Amitav Islam, also known as Amit is a Perth-based singer, songwriter, music composer, producer, videographer and digital content creator who is a very well established versatile performer, and known as the “Jagjit Singh of Western Australia” by his fans and followers. A Ghazal virtuoso from Perth, Amit has been performing since age 4. His first guru was his mother, and then he started getting musical training in Indian Classical Music from renowned Bangladeshi classical vocalist Ustad Akhtar Sadmani Sahab who was a student of legendary maestro Ustad Amir Khan Sahab of Indore gharana. Since his early days, Amit was a regular A Grade artist in Bangladesh National TV and Radio. He is a multi-award winning Bangla Folk singer from Bangladesh who also shared stage with all major artists from Bangladesh since childhood. Over the years he has released more than 20 singles in Bangla, Hindi & Urdu and also released a complete album with his Folk Fusion band Jaatishshor. Furthermore, he has been working with various established music directors from Bangladesh since his early days in the Radio Bangladesh and has performed in the USA, Canada, Bangladesh, and of course Australia. Besides ghazals, Amit is seen performing Bollywood, Sufi, Bangla Modern, Folk, Rock, Pure and Semi-classical songs in different languages. Amit is also the vocalist of Perth-based indo-jazz band SwaraSynthesis. He also teaches music in the Bangladeshi and Indian communities in Perth.
