Biography & Metadata

Freddie Miranda Jr. is a Puerto Rican professional percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, and producer whose career spans more than three decades. A two-time Latin GRAMMY-nominated musician, Miranda has performed and recorded with some of Latin music’s most celebrated artists, including Bobby Valentín, Jerry Rivera, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Puerto Rican Power, Lito and Cucco Peña, and many others. Equally at home on timbales, congas, bongó, and other percussion instruments, Miranda brings together the traditions of Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean music with a lifetime of experiences performing around the world. His international career has taken him from Puerto Rico and the United States to Japan and throughout Asia, where he spent six years performing and collaborating with musicians from around the world, including appearances at major international events such as the Java Jazz Festival. His work as a solo artist showcases both sides of his musical voice, from hard-driving salsa to Latin jazz. His debut album, ¡Anda! Toca Miranda, released in 2023, features an international cast of musicians and special guests, followed by the 2025 single Tambor. His music reflects the same philosophy that has defined his career: deep respect for tradition, a global perspective, and a percussionist’s unmistakable drive.
