Charles Knudsen

Charles Knudsen is an award-winning American composer based in Tokyo whose music spans solo piano and chamber music. His work emphasizes memorable melody, rich harmonic color, and emotional clarity, drawing inspiration from Impressionism, jazz harmony, and the classical tradition while maintaining a distinctive contemporary voice. His catalog includes works for solo piano, string quartet, violin and piano, and other chamber ensembles. His compositions have been performed and recorded by internationally respected musicians and have received recognition in several international music competitions, earning multiple prizes and special distinctions. Recent honors include being named Absolute Winner in Original Composition at the 2026 Classical Stars International Music Competition.
