Biography & Metadata
Jovanotti, born Lorenzo Cherubini in Rome on September 27, 1966, is one of Italian pop’s most influential artists. Raised between Rome and Cortona, he began as a DJ before joining Radio Deejay in 1987 at the invitation of Claudio Cecchetto. His 1988 debut, Jovanotti for President, launched a career that would bring rap, funk and global rhythms into the Italian mainstream. From the playful energy of his early hits, Jovanotti developed a distinctive voice, blending infectious grooves with heartfelt songwriting and social awareness. Albums such as Lorenzo 1992 and Lorenzo 1994 delivered enduring favorites including “Ragazzo Fortunato,” “Penso Positivo” and “Serenata Rap.” With “L’Ombelico del Mondo,” L’Albero and Capo Horn, his music embraced influences gathered on his travels, alongside beloved songs such as “Bella,” “Per Te” and “Un Raggio di Sole.” His creative journey continued through Il Quinto Mondo, Safari and the electronic textures of Ora, followed by Lorenzo 2015 CC. and the Rick Rubin-produced Oh, Vita! in 2017. Collaborations with Italian and international artists, books, film soundtracks and humanitarian projects have expanded his work beyond music. Constantly evolving while retaining his warmth and exuberance, Jovanotti has built a songbook that connects generations through love, curiosity and the joy of living.
