Magpie Jay

Born from high school friendships and a shared obsession with sound, Magpie Jay has quietly grown into one of Central America’s most enduring alternative rock acts. For over a decade, the Costa Rican band has charted its own course, blending the raw, melodic grit of ’90s rock with expansive, modern atmospheric textures. Driven by honest songwriting and a deeply communal live energy, their journey has taken them far beyond their borders, building a dedicated, grassroots family of listeners from San José to the heart of Mexico. With four studio albums defining their evolution, Magpie Jay’s music remains an open invitation to connect. Their latest record, URRACA (2025), represents their most cohesive and mature statement yet—a testament to staying true to their roots while constantly pushing their creative boundaries.
