Biography & Metadata
Born in Madrid in 1991, singer María Villar first caught the public eye when she was listed among the contestants of Operación Triunfo 2018, Spain's most popular talent show. Upon the conclusion of the show Villar joined her fellow cast members for a national tour and other promotional activities. When it came time to launch herself as a solo artist, however, Villar surprised audiences by reinventing herself as María Escarmiento and turning to an urban-oriented style, particularly on her 2020 debut EP Sintiéndolo Mucho. Successive releases found her veering toward a more electronic sound, chiefly influenced by hyperpop, as well as collaborating with the likes of Eigen Risico, Fran Laoren, BLNCO, detunedfreq, and Natalia Lacunza, among others. Her first full-length, Cosas De Brujas (2023), included the minor hit "Puedes Contar Conmigo." Three EPs followed in 2024: Sensación De Calor, iCandy, and Sensación De Calor 2. Forever, María Escarmiento's sophomore album, arrived in 2026. ~ Mariano Prunes, Rovi
