Hodago

Hodago is a Namibia-born, South Africa-raised, South London-based producer, DJ and lyricist. I make music for people who still believe hip-hop can mean something. Who know it started as a tool for truth and resistance and who feel how far it’s drifted. I don’t make tunes to go viral or fit a playlist. I make them to say what needs to be said and speak on what most tend to avoid. The mask isn’t about mystery; it’s about freedom. I’m an immigrant. I’ve seen what happens to people like me who speak too loudly against power. The mask lets me say what needs to be said without risking the people I care about most. I put everything into the craft; the visuals, the sound, the message. I pull from 80s and 90s rap, to metal, jazz, funk, grime, kwaito and afrobeats. From townships in Namibia to street cyphers in South London. Nothing is random. No Slave did 200K with no team, no machine. Tokyo Drift hit 750K with no push. We’ve built this from the ground up and we’re just getting started. This isn’t for the background. It’s not for everyone. But if you know what this culture was really built for then you’ll get it.
