Biography & Metadata

Somni is Leo Shulman, a UK born, LA based producer, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. With a wide range of influences spanning from Elliott Smith to Flying Lotus, Somni’s music generally toes the line between lo-fi indie, experimental hip-hop, and ambient electronic. With support and features from Pigeons and Planes, Mixmag, NPR, Electronic Sound, Bandcamp Daily and more, Somni continues to push boundaries with a distinctive, genre-bending sound. Leo began his path as a musician at an early age. Raised in a musical family, he started studying classical and jazz guitar in childhood, before expanding into drums and keyboard in his early teens. By high school, he was experimenting with songwriting and production, laying the foundation for the launch of Somni in 2018. Since then he has released 3 full-length albums - Bloom (2018), Home (2020), and Gravity (2023) - alongside a steady stream of EP’s, singles, collaborations, and remixes. His fourth LP, The Cost Of Living, is set for release in mid-April.
