Biography & Metadata

Lullabies is the instrumental project of Phoenix, AZ–based guitarist and producer Richard Lam, whose work blends atmospheric instrumentals, soulful textures, and the dusty rhythms of boom bap. Rooted in the raw strum of early alternative and classic rock and shaped by the golden era of hip-hop, Lullabies is a project built on deep contrasts — melody and mood, groove and grit. The journey began at age 11 with a hand-me-down guitar and an early fascination with expressive players like Jimi Hendrix. At 15, watching Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii became a turning point, igniting a lifelong obsession with space, tone, and cinematic composition. Growing up in the '90s, hip-hop artists like A Tribe Called Quest and Jurassic 5 provided a rhythmic backbone, later expanded through turntables and beatmaking. Today, Lullabies continues that evolution — crafting guitar-heavy, instrumental’s built to soundtrack moments of calm, focus, and reflection, weaving together ambient guitar work, head-nodding drums, and a reverence for soul and blues. It’s music for the in-between — a slow-burning intersection of analog warmth and timeless groove.
