Claire Barnett-Jones is a British mezzo-soprano praised for her dramatic power and vocal richness, and is quickly becoming a major presence on the international operatic stage. She was catapulted to international attention in 2021 as a finalist at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, where she won the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize after stepping in with just 12 hours’ notice. Recent highlights include her Bayreuth Festival debut as Waltraute in Die Walküre and Second Norn in Götterdämmerung, conducted by Simone Young. She continues her Wagnerian success in 2025 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in the same role under Antonio Pappano in a new production by Barrie Kosky. At Bayerische Staatsoper, she appears as the Forester’s Wife and Owl in The Cunning Little Vixen, also directed by Kosky. Other key roles include Mescalina in Le Grand Macabre (Oper Frankfurt), Mrs. Sedley in Peter Grimes (Dutch National Opera), and Madame Flora in The Medium. In concert, she has appeared with the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, and BBC Philharmonic orchestras. Her recordings span from Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire to Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
