Biography & Metadata

Shelly Lares is a pioneering force in Tejano music whose career spans more than four decades as a singer, songwriter, producer and industry leader. A 3-time Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee, she has recorded and produced more than 25 albums, earned numerous BMI-recognized hits and performed throughout the U.S., Mexico, Japan, Korea and Guam. After retiring from full-time touring in 2022 following 40 years on the road, Shelly became CEO and owner of ShellShock Records 3, a full-service label and recording studio focused on artist development, production, radio, marketing and branding. Her mission is “Legacy building one artist at a time.” Her work has expanded into film and television, including music featured in “Say a Little Prayer,” starring Luis Fonsi, and an appearance on “Leguizamo Does America” with John Leguizamo. Her honors include the Human Rights Campaign Legacy Award, WIFT Creative Arts Award, induction into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame and the 2025 SAAHJ Corazón de Oro Award. Shelly also serves as the first Artist in Residence at UT San Antonio’s School of Music, leading Sonido Tejano, the university’s first official Tejano Ensemble. As Music Activity Coordinator for Harmony Hospice Care, she also uses music to bring comfort and connection to patients and families. Whether in music, education or service, Shelly continues building a legacy rooted in GOD, FAMILY and INTEGRITY.
