Biography & Metadata

Zekt’s unique style is heavily influenced by his place of birth. His intricately layered songs are both complex and effortlessly fluid like the ebbing and flowing of the ocean that he had grown up beside. Memories of being on beaches and Bar-Cafés in Honolulu with his friends color each note of the melody. His lyrics depict a sense of freedom, while his deep, sultry voice gives his music a beautiful, melancholic feel. His songs transgress the traditional genres of music, combining soul, contemporary R&B, electronic, and indie. Zekt started his music career in the midst of attending University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he received vocal training. Eventually, he branched off and started producing his own beats. His love of music started off as a way to escape the shallow vanities of reality, the rat-race of capitalism, the inescapable labels we are confined to during the day. In an interview, he states, “it was a way for me to decompress and not focus so much on making money. It helped me think not so much about tomorrow, but kept me enjoying life in the present with my friends and family. Music kept me grounded. And I hope that I can help my listeners do the same.”
