The bicultural kid who was born in Puerto Rico, and raised in the U.S., LA EQUIS carries a story shaped by migration and reinvention. Born to a Puerto Rican mother and Cuban father, shortly after the Cuban revolution his family left Cuba in search of new opportunities in Puerto Rico before settling in the States. That cross-cultural upbringing deeply influenced his sound, vision, and the world-building behind his work. LA EQUIS (formerly Xcelencia) is a singer, songwriter, and producer who blends reggaetón with alternative pop, hip hop, electronic elements, and Caribbean rhythms. Known for his use of samples and genre-bending style, he pushes Latin music forward while staying grounded in his roots. Entirely independent, he has amassed over 55 million streams, voiced Papa John’s on a nationwide Spanish campaign, and earned high-profile syncs with Marvel, Disney, HBO Max, and the MLB The Show series. Beyond music, he spearheads a slate of Latin-culture ventures and is recognized as a pioneer in direct-to-fan releases.
