Biography & Metadata

Love songs for the end of the world, and whatever comes next. 'My Still Untitled Life' — the album's title points to our searches for a simple, sayable purpose to our numbered days. A meditation on tenderness, love, and death, from the sublime lyricist championed by contemporary folk greats Gregory Alan Isakov and John Craigie. With features by Zoë Winter, Aviva Le Fey, Winona, Gillian Grogan, Anna Moss (of Handmade Moments), Brittany Powers (of hot brother) and King Dream (co-producer). "The genesis for this album was the death of a friend in a San Francisco bicycle accident in 2019. The spiritual heart of the record is "Lying in the Lap", a song I wrote for her, from the perspective of her longtime partner, as a means to unbottle my own grief — and gesture at the possibility of a Great Love that goes beyond life and death." Daniel Steinbock was born and raised on the California coast north of the Golden Gate, the only child of a sailor and a librarian. A singer-songwriter in the lyrical tradition of Paul Simon, Sam Beam (Iron & Wine), and Neil Young, pre-apocalyptic love songs and spare folk poems fill his song book with a rare spiritual nakedness. His debut album, Out of Blue, featured frequent collaborators John Craigie, Rainbow Girls, and Ayla Nereo.
