Biography & Metadata
Nao is an RIAA gold-certified singer, songwriter & producer from East London, blending soul, R&B, funk, electronic music and jazz. A trained jazz musician and former session singer, she introduced her “wonky funk” sound through early EPs So Good and February 15, before placing third in the BBC Sound Poll in 2016. Her debut album For All We Know (2016), released through her own Little Tokyo Recordings, earned BRIT and MOBO nominations and led to sold-out shows at Brixton Academy and New York’s Terminal 5. Saturn (2018) followed with Mercury Prize and Grammy nominations, cementing her reputation as one of British music’s most distinctive voices. And Then Life Was Beautiful (2021), featuring “Antidote” with Adekunle Gold, received five-star reviews. Her fourth album, Jupiter (2025), continued her exploration of joy, healing and renewal. Beyond records, she has spoken at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and hosted The Music & Meditation Podcast for BBC Radio 3. Following tenth-anniversary performances of For All We Know in July 2026, Nao returns to her jazz roots on Autumn, her fifth album, released independently on 16 October 2026. Created with Dave Okumu, the 10-track record centres improvisation, soulful songwriting and live musicianship. Introduced by “Eugene” and “Save The World”, Autumn opens A Soulful Suite: four albums inspired by the seasons, each exploring a different musical language that has shaped her artistry.
