Biography & Metadata
Representing the Sierra Leone diaspora, Artist/Producer Fake Cousin brings a distinct blend of hip hop and electronic into the contemporary Afrobeat scene. Born Darren René Buck, Fake Cousin was introduced at an early age to both traditional West African sounds and American Hip Hop at a critical juncture where both were shifting toward contemporary sounds recognised today. Naturally, Fake Cousin's take on Afrobeats is a left and more abstract blend of influences on both sids of the Atlantic Ocean pulling from influences like Emmerson and Magic System to Lil Wayne, MF DOOM, and even Bon Iver and James Blake
