Biography & Metadata

Angra was formed in 1991 in São Paulo, Brazil, inspired by bands such as Helloween, Queensrÿche and Iron Maiden. From the beginning, the band created a unique sound blending power metal with classical music, Brazilian influences and progressive elements, combining technical precision with strong melodies and emotional depth. Their debut album Angels Cry went gold in Japan and received critical acclaim in Europe and Brazil. The follow-up, Holy Land, expanded their identity with Brazilian rhythms and orchestral textures, establishing Angra as one of the most original bands in metal. Over the decades, Angra has influenced generations worldwide, evolving through different lineups while maintaining a distinct artistic vision led by founder Rafael Bittencourt. Recently, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of Temple of Shadows with a world tour featuring special reunion moments, reinforcing their legacy and connection with fans. Following this milestone, Angra entered a planned pause while remaining active through special releases and events. This new chapter includes vocalist Alírio Netto, bringing renewed energy to the band. More than three decades on, Angra remains one of Brazil’s most influential metal bands. Angra is: Alírio Netto – vocals Rafael Bittencourt – guitars and vocals Felipe Andreoli – bass Marcelo Barbosa – guitars Bruno Valverde – drums
