Bob Westlake

My latest release out on 24th April is When We Were Free. Music written and performed by me with lyrics by Marilyn Timmins-Goode. Its a metal song with vocals by an opera trained vocalist Martina Questa - I hope you like it. I grew up in the 60s and my early influences were The Shadows, Kinks, Stones, Leonard Cohen, Pink Floyd, Dave Cousins (Strawbs), getting into rock and more recently Muse, Nightwish, Mostly Autumn and Lee Abraham. I bought my first record when 12. I learnt to play guitar when I was 13 or 14. Been in a few pub bands over the years but house/kids etc meant the family came first. I have always dabbled in songwriting and it was the solitude and time of lockdown gave that provided the opportunity. I normally don’t set out with a genre of song in mind when writing, allowing the freedom and inspiration to lead me. The exception to this is Its Christmas Time. My friend Geoff is a lyricist and poet and he had been badgering me for years to write a Christmas song with him. In the lockdown of July 2020 I relented and thus my first single was released. In the meantime take care, look after yourselves and be kind. Bob x
