Biography & Metadata

Brooklyn based avant-garde experimental jazz trio Nite Bjuti released their highly anticipated album on July 28, 2023 following the debut single Mood (Liberation Walk) . The trio, composed of acclaimed singer-songwriter Candice Hoyes, 2023 Grammy-winners (with Terri Lyne Carrington’s New Jazz Standards Vol. 1) SoundChemist Val Jeanty and bassist Mimi Jones, contemplates existential themes such as maturity, coming of age, and deep physical, mental and spiritual change in their highly-anticipated single, which precedes their full-length album release on Friday July 28, 2023. The album began after Nite Bjuti recorded music of luminary artist Wayne Shorter in 2020, who issued early praise for their musical approach. The Afro Caribbean three piece crafts and produces an intentional and intoxicating fresh jazz meets electronica sonic experience complete with hypnotic vocals, Haitian inspired drums, and soul penetrating basslines. Individually, their collaborators include Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, Makaya McCraven, Kris Davis and Joel Ross. Together, Nite Bjuti has performed at the nationally recognized 'Jazz at Lincoln Center' and has received acclaim from All Songs Considered, Jazz Times amongst others. "Percussionist/beat maker Val Jeanty, vocalist/sampler controller Candice Hoyes, and double bassist Mimi Jones were the biggest revelation of NYC Winter Jazzfest 2023 Playlist (so far), creating dense sound vistas and pure improvisations."
