Sonant

"Ambient with friends." That’s how I’d sum up my Sonant album Upon Mending. It’s a collection of collaborations with old and new friends in the ambient world—Be Still the Earth, Dear Gravity, Antarctic Wastelands, We Dream of Eden, Raphah — each bringing their own unique touch, whether it’s a signature texture, melodic sensibility, or approach to space and sound. Some collaborations were built around elements I already loved about their writing styles, while others were more like experiments—sending them a specific sound or idea I knew would spark something interesting. The sounds are shaped by layers of synths, tape manipulation, and ethereal shimmers across various instrumentation that blur the lines between organic and dreamlike. Some of my other monikers and collaborations include Elskavon, Blurstem, Dellwood, Glass Echoes, Lumado, Bora York, illi mel, Emerald Ancients and under my own name Chris Bartels.
