Biography & Metadata
Berkeley sings in a lustrous melancholy voice with shades of Nick Drake and Tim Buckley -NEW YORK TIMES Berkeley follows in the sweet-voiced, melancholic tradition of James Taylor - THE NEW YORKER Santa Fe-based songwriter and author David Berkeley writes songs capable of both breaking and mending the heart. A standout guest on This American Life, he’s won many songwriting awards and honors including ASCAPs Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award. Berkeley has released 9 studio albums, a live album, and authored 2 books. Berkeley’s newest album, A Pail Full of Fire, is a masterclass on songwriting and singing. Produced by Todd Sickafoose (Hadestown, Ani DiFranco, Andrew Bird) and featuring Anna Tivel on angelic background vocals and Rich Hinman on ethereal pedal steel, the arrangements are spare and restrained, allowing Berkeley’s rich baritone and profound poetry to take centerstage. Like all of Berkeley’s catalogue, the music begs you to lean in and listen close, as each song speaks to what matters in this life. He is also half of the wildly creative Trans-Atlantic costumed duo Son of Town Hall who just released their debut LP to wide praise. His music has also been remixed by many of the world’s top EDM DJs. He tours extensively all over the country and world and has opened/toured with Dido, Ben Folds, Billy Bragg, Ray Lamontagne, Nickel Creek and many more. "As emotionally disarming as Nick Drake, and intellectually fascinating as Andrew Bird"– SAN JOSE METRO
