Biography & Metadata

Formed in 2012 in the small East Texas town of Palestine by vocalist Matt James and drummer Nathan Gillis, Blacktop Mojo has spent more than a decade forging its own path in modern rock. Blending the weight of grunge, the swagger of Southern rock, and the soul of blues, the band's sound has earned them a loyal following and the nickname "Texas Grunge." What began in dive bars, dancehalls, and honky-tonks across Texas has grown into an international touring act with millions of streams, multiple Top 40 Billboard and Mediabase Active Rock singles, and a reputation as one of the hardest-working independent bands in rock. Through six studio albums, including 2026's *Discount Fireworks*, Blacktop Mojo has continued to evolve while staying true to the raw energy that first put them on the map. Built on relentless touring, authentic songwriting, and a powerful live show, the band has cultivated a dedicated fanbase across the United States, Europe, and beyond. Their success has come without major label backing, proving that hard work and genuine fan connection still matter. "When you come see us," says frontman Matt James, "you're seeing rock and roll the way it was meant to be played. No laptops. No backing tracks. Just a band on stage giving everything they've got." More than a decade into their journey, Blacktop Mojo remains a true independent success story, carrying the torch for honest, hard-hitting rock and roll.
