Biography & Metadata

Imaabs, or Cristo Gavras, is known for reshaping contemporary club music from a distinctly Latin American perspective. A long-standing member of NAAFI, his work merges percussive intensity, experimental sound design, and a critical approach to global club culture. His releases have appeared on labels such PTP (USA) and Trax Couture (UK), and his performances include Sónar Barcelona, MUTEK (MX/AR), Pitchfork Festival (MX), Warm Up at MoMA PS1 (NYC), EDC México, and tours across Europe, Asia, the US, and Latin America. Alongside his production and DJ practice, Imaabs has developed an extensive body of work in sound design, performance, and composition, collaborating with artists and institutions such as NAVE, Matucana 100 (Chile), DansFabrik (France), Museo Tamayo, MUAC, Anahuacalli, Fonoteca Nacional (México). As a mixing and mastering engineer, he has worked with labels and artists including Hyperdub, NAAFI, Terminal, Hiedrah, Finesse, Gaika, Girl Ultra, and Kode9. His sound sits at the intersection of club futurism, deconstructed rhythm, and sonic research—an evolving exploration of how peripheral scenes can redefine the global dancefloor.
