Born in Cardiff, Wales, he works out of a solar-powered shipping container recording studio in Melbourne, Australia and produces music on zero carbon emissions. After several near-death accidents in his first career as a mining geologist, he switched to a life of music and political agitation, spending years roaming the Australian desert as a political activist and guerrilla environmentalist. Monkey Marc draws inspiration from varied sources such as classic hip hop producers like J Dilla, 70s and 80s punk music, bass music and the Jamaican dub pioneers of the 70s. His music brings together an obsession with analog synthesisers, handcrafted drum samples and heavyweight bass with a passion for making music with a message. Monkey says, “I believe in the power of music to educate, inspire and change people’s perspectives”. Monkey has also worked with indigenous youth and traditional elders in indigenous Australian communities for over 15 years and co-produced indigenous women’s electronic music album Kardajala Kirridarra.
