Jo Harman

Born in London, the family moved to chocolate box picturesque Devon when Jo was an infant. Her musicality came initially via classical youth orchestras where Jo was a child bassoonist, before the allure of Aretha, Joplin, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill and others ignited a passion for R&B inspired vocals. But far from becoming yet another 'soul copyist', Harman was also much influenced by her Fathers diverse vinyl record collection from the 'golden age of music' which so informs her own diverse writing style. It was her Fathers untimely demise which further fuelled Harman's artistry, quickly rising through the world of soul, blues and more. She has now gained a reputation as an important and fiercely independent artist whose work is defined by emotional honesty, musical depth and a voice that seems to reach people in a way few artists can. She has performed on many prestigious stages — including the O2 Arena, Royal Albert Hall, Union Chapel, Cadogan Hall and the Jazz Café (4 times) as well as headlined major festivals across the UK, Europe and beyond. Her live performances have drawn audiences ranging from intimate theatre crowds to gatherings of more than 20,000 people, and on one extraordinary occasion, 250,000. Harman's reputation for emotional depth and vocal nuance has attracted world‑class musicians from the very beginning, and she has collaborated with legendary figures including Michael McDonald, Joan Baez, Lamont Dozier, Glen Hansard and Patti Smith.
