British producer Configa is one of the leading independent boom bap producers, known for soulful, layered instrumentals rooted in golden-era hip-hop. His catalogue has amassed over 30 million streams, placing him alongside front-facing recording artists in scale, with a global audience built independently through cohesive projects. He has collaborated with legends such as Arrested Development, Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane and Masta Ace, with music featured across film, TV and radio worldwide. As co-executive producer and primary sonic architect behind the last four Arrested Development albums — including For the FKN Love and Bullets In The Chamber — he has helped shape the group’s modern sound. Named “Producer of the Year” by B-Boy Document and praised by Bandcamp Daily, The Source and HipHopDX, Configa is a defining voice in contemporary boom bap. His solo work, including Configaration, Vol. 1 (released via Chuck D’s SLAMjamz Records), reinforces his reputation for delivering cohesive projects with global reach. Holding a PhD in Sociology, focused on hip-hop and identity, and as founder of Configaration Records, Configa combines intellectual depth with hard-knocking drums, dusty textures and head-nodding grooves. “Configa is one of our favorite producers active today.” – Hip Hop Golden Age “One of the most important producers in the game today.” – William P. Stodden, The New Haberdasher “Configa has left his mark on the world of hip-hop music.” – Rob Janicke, The Riff
