The follow up to 2021’s critically acclaimed number one album Love Signs, Experiencing Feelings of Joy is another beast entirely, a transcendent pop opus that takes listeners on a beautifully euphoric and uplifting journey, even as it’s underlined by some of the most surprisingly raw and confessional lyrics that frontman Sam Hales has put to paper yet. Borne from a particularly turbulent period in Hales’ life which included creative burnout, physical injury, frayed friendships and the end of a long term relationship, Experiencing Feelings of Joy is a living testament to the eternal adage “the only way out is through”, with Hales using writing as a means of turning all the emotional tumult and upheaval into musical gold. “I'd overextended and kind of cooked it, but I really found myself”, Hales says. “That’s where the joy comes from, having this unwavering hope even after experiencing adversity.
