Biography & Metadata

Laura Cannell's music is described as “Primordially Beautiful….One of the most exciting instrumentalists around” by THE GUARDIAN and “an essential work of modern British folk and avant-garde composition.” THE QUIETUS. Straddling the worlds of experimental, folk, chamber, early & medieval music, performer/composer Laura Cannell's singular vision sets her apart from her contemporaries, whilst her music exists as a culturally vital exploration of the link between medieval, traditional and modern musical idioms. Described as a "Radical Neo-medieval Musician" by The Guardian, Cannell draws on the emotional influences of the landscape whilst exploring the spaces between early and experimental music. She performed on the soundtrack to feature film Harvest (premiered at Venice Biennale, New York and London International Film Festivals), and was co-composer on ‘The Woman in Black’ for Audible. Her music has appeared in film and tv, and at Paris, Milan and London Fashion Weeks. Laura has toured throughout the UK & Europe, is regularly broadcast on the BBC and is on around 70 recordings. Solo shows include Deep Minimalism at Queen Elizabeth Hall, King’s Place, The Barbican. She has collaborated with cellist Lori Goldston (Nirvana, Earth), and writer/comedian Stewart Lee.
