Biography & Metadata
The “Rock Maestro” BAMBOO is one of the most enduring voices in Philippine rock music, with a career spanning more than three decades and a body of work that continues to connect with generations of Filipino audiences. Born Francisco Lope Gaudencio Belardo Mañalac in March 1976, BAMBOO first rose to prominence as the vocalist of ’90s rock band Rivermaya, lending his voice to iconic songs such as “214,” “Ulan,” “Kisapmata,” “Himala,” and “Awit ng Kabataan.” In 2003, he co-founded Bamboo, which went on to produce enduring OPM anthems including “Noypi,” “Hallelujah,” “Masaya,” and “Tatsulok.” BAMBOO later established a successful solo career with No Water, No Moon (2011) and Bless This Mess (2015). His solo work earned multiple industry recognitions, including Awit Awards and MYX Music Awards, further cementing his place as a distinctive voice in Filipino rock. A NEW CHAPTER: “ALON” In October 2026, BAMBOO returns to recording with “Alon,” his first new music release in more than a decade. The song explores hope, renewal, new beginnings, and finding light amid uncertainty, offering an uplifting perspective on change and moving forward. “Alon” marks a new chapter for an artist whose music has continually evolved while remaining rooted in emotional honesty and powerful storytelling. After more than three decades in music, BAMBOO continues to evolve while remaining a defining voice in OPM—bridging the legacy of Filipino rock with a new generation of artists and audiences.
