Biography & Metadata

Sunshine Makers are a psychedelic soul-funk collective from London, Ontario, radiating lush harmonies and deep-pocket grooves, with an uplifting message of unity and love. Fronted by Brent Jackson (vocals, guitar) and joined by Tina Powell (keys, vocals), Caleb Brown (bass), Thom Perquin (drums), and Shayn Barnes (percussion), the group draws from R&B, jazz, and ‘70s West Coast soul, with vintage tones and hypnotic, live arrangements. Celebrated for their infectious live energy, Sunshine Makers have shared bills with Shad, BADBADNOTGOOD, Lady Wray, Thee Marloes, Brainstory, and pared-down versions have taken their soulful sound abroad, performing in Tokyo, Sweden, and Texas. Their blend of groove, warmth, and devotion to authenticity earned them the 2025 Forest City London Music Award for R&B/Soul Group of the Year. Praised by CBC, featured in Rolling Stone France, and playlisted on France’s FIP, the band’s second album The Sun Still Shines is hailed “Another ray of funk-filled optimism” by Exclaim!’s Sydney Brasil. It follows the A-Side EP and the 2024 self-titled debut. In April 2026, the band flew to Los Angeles to record their third album, Turn Up The Sun, with producer Sergio Rios (Orgone, Say She She, Neal Francis). Tracked live to analog tape at Killion Sound in North Hollywood, the album is set to release in June 2027, with the first single, “The Love We Give,” arriving September 4, 2026—released on their own London, Ontario label LOVETOWN RECORDS.
