David & The Circumstances

Dutch artist David & The Circumstances (David Groeneweg) writes songs about existential questions, light, darkness and the twilight in between. His lyrics explore the unclear boundary between “me” and “the circumstances”, the river and the sea, perfection and imperfection. Serene guitar- and piano sounds gently carry his poetic message. David’s debut album, This Part of Me (2015), received praise from music press in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy. With fingerpicked acoustic and electric guitar, minimalistic piano, ethereal backing vocals, and subtle ebow and cello layers, David’s music offers a quiet, introspective sound world. Performing as a solo artist, David has played at venues including Amsterdam’s Melkweg, stages across New York City, the UK, and Italy, and appeared on Dutch national radio stations 3FM and Radio1. Between 2016 and 2019 David lived in London, playing numerous live shows at venues like The Bedford and Notting Hill Arts Club, while developing early ideas for his next album. After a tour through Italy and working on several other music composition and production projects, he started finishing his recordings in 2024 with renewed focus and clarity.
