Lophae

Four uniquely gifted & sensitive improvisers brought together by London-based guitarist & bandleader Greg Sanders (known for work with Juanita Euka & Teotima), playing captivating and lyrical modern jazz with international hat-tips and psychedelic flourishes. Sanders' compositions and unmistakable feel form the core of Lophae's sound – combining melodic elegance with subtle rhythmic complexity, and providing a lush foundation for the quartet's mercurial improvisation and dialogue. Drummer Ben Brown brings wide-reaching rhythmic expertise, honed while performing with Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke and leading his own group Waaju. Bass player Tom Herbert is a mainstay of the UK jazz scene, much-admired for his massive sound and immaculate musical sensitivity, as heard on his work with The Invisible, Polar Bear, London Brew and Acoustic Ladyland, among others. Saxophonist Sam Rapley possesses a lyrical flair, a relaxed mastery of his instrument, and an easy command of melody in the vein of tenor giants like Stan Getz and Sonny Rollins.
