Masayoshi Fujita

Masayoshi Fujita is a Japanese vibraphonist, marimba player, and composer. Unconstrained by traditional styles, techniques, or compositional theories, he continuously explores new possibilities for his instruments and crafts sonic landscapes that are unmistakably his own. Masayoshi also prepares his instruments with beads, strips of foil, and similar objects, resulting in new sounds, akin to distortions, that help to expand the vibraphone spectrum without eroding the instrument’s intrinsic character or even abandoning it altogether After 13 years in Berlin, he relocated to a new home and studio in the rural Japanese mountain village of Kami-cho, Hyogo, following his life-long dream of creating music in nature. In the quiet embrace of the mountains, where clouds weave through old trees and time seems to pause, Masayoshi finds inspiration and continues his sonic explorations, sharing these creations with the world. Inspired by the silence, the depth of the fog, the mountains, and their gravity, his music evokes images, atmospheres, sceneries, and stories in the listener—images that have accumulated in him over time. He also explores the unexplored beauty of the vibraphone and marimba, blending their sounds with the bold sounds of synthesizers and effectors. His recent collaboration with German electronic musician Jan Jelinek has drawn significant attention from experimental music enthusiasts worldwide.
