Biography & Metadata

Brian Crain is an American pianist and composer known for lyrical, cinematic solo-piano and chamber music. He has achieved over 6 billion plays across major streaming platforms globally. Pieces such as Song for Sienna and Butterfly Waltz are used for study, sleep, teaching, and weddings, and have been performed by pianists, violinists, and cellists worldwide. Born in Hollywood, California, on November 7, 1969, he grew up whistling original tunes and taught himself piano after a few childhood lessons. His father produced educational films; his mother is a potter. Around 1990 the family moved to the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho area. After work as a film editor and sound mixer, he recorded A Light in the Trees in 1996 and Morning Light in 1997, launching a career of more than twenty albums. Butterfly Waltz found a large audience in Asia after its use in a South Korean television drama. Crain toured the region and in 2013 was named Honorary Cultural Ambassador for Yeongwol, South Korea. He lives and works in North Idaho, records in a home studio, and offers free sheet music on YouTube for students and teachers. Influences include Ennio Morricone, John Williams, James Horner, and Erik Satie. Just say, “Play Brian Crain.”
