To Be Gentle

The passion project of Pacific Northwestern songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eve Beeker, To Be Gentle’s ardent experimental screamo converges at the intersection of post-rock, atmospheric black metal, emo, melodic hardcore, and ambient. Once a full band (to a greater degree, a collective of artists and musicians that rotated throughout various phases), since 2019 Beeker has undertaken the project mostly as a solo endeavor, collaborating in the past with family and friends. Tapping into the fundamental components of Beeker’s long-term inspiration, To Be Gentle’s sound pairs “the beautiful with the distressing”, leaning into the cathartic screamo framework of Daïtro and Gillian Carter and the blackened shoegaze of Deafheaven and Sadness. Beeker was catalyzed to start To Be Gentle by the likes of various 00-10’s screamo bands. In 2018, To Be Gentle released their debut EP I Love You, followed shortly after in 2019 by their self-titled LP. From there, the project established a following as Beeker issued multiple releases comprised of singles, split recordings, EP’s, and LP’s, some of which have received numerous vinyl pressings. Amongst To Be Gentle’s prolific and eclectic discography are discernible gemstones, such as their magnum opus L'autre Côté de la Peur, the Yu-Gi-Oh!-themed If You Are Reading This We Are All Connected and We All Love You, and their newest offering I Am a Spiritual Being Having a Human Experience.
