Biography & Metadata

PhD (Persson Hedberg Dreifaldt) is a musical project rooted in an unusually long-standing friendship. The story begins in preschool, where the foundation was laid for a collaboration that would follow the members through nine years in the same class—and beyond, into music. At the age of 12, they formed their first band, The Volunteeers, heavily inspired by The Beatles and their approach to songwriting. The band later evolved into Small and Tall, with a strong focus on original material—both in writing and production. Over time, the lineup expanded with Bengt Hilmersson (guitar) and Magnus Nilsson (drums), leading to a record deal and the release of the single “Mer och mer.” As life took the members in different directions—through education, careers, and moves across the world—music remained a common thread, even if pursued individually. Today, the project has been revived. Old songs and demos have been rediscovered and transformed through modern production, with AI-assisted post-production helping bring the original vision to life using today’s technology. PhD bridges past and present—a legacy of friendship, creativity, and music-making now reaching a new audience.
