Biography & Metadata
I’m Steve, I create sounds and music to help soothe and relieve tinnitus. I've had tinnitus since 2003, multiple tones, two bouts of hyperacusis behind me, been through the wringer. I use different techniques to try and interfere with tinnitus, either from scientific papers or from trial and error on myself. You'll hear neuromodulation, amplitude modulation, notching, randomisation and more - all things to help the brain to push away the tinnitus noise. Hopefully you can find something here to help you, if not I take requests :) My tinnitus started off as a quiet sound in one ear and progressed to both ears. It can get pretty loud at times, at its worst it's like standing near a jet plane when the engine is idling. I've identified three original causes - a bout of flu, light noise induced hearing loss and a blow to the jaw from a steel joist. I would say that I am mostly habituated to it, but that doesn't mean that things are easy. When you've had it this long and loud you know it isn't as simple as just forgetting it's there and getting on with things, habituation for me is not letting it pull me down. I've done a lot of work in the research and volunteer communities, I co-founded the non-profit Tinnitus Hub, sit on the patient board of Tinnitus Quest, co-produced the app Tinnitus Play and have co-authored a number of papers researching people with tinnitus. You can find a load of videos up on the Tinnitus Works YouTube channel and my Tinnitus Works website.
