Biography & Metadata
An introduction in a Boston apartment led to the formation of the ambitious duo of Paul Casanova and Charles Newman who would end up on the streets of New York City and evolve into its’ most significant incarnation as PLEASE. In the early days of AOL, Newman connected with a music supervisor that was assembling the music for the film Empire Records. To their astonishment, PLEASE was being considered alongside radio toppers of the day like The Cranberries and The Gin Blossoms. Soon after their song “Here it Comes Again” was chosen for the film and soundtrack and they entered the studio with Producer/ Talking Head Jerri Harrison. With the release of the soundtrack and film, the group continued to tour the US sharing stages with the likes of Blind Melon, Manic Street Preachers, and most notably Radiohead’s CBGBs debut. By the late 90s the band went on unofficial hiatus with Casanova contributing music to an array of MTV shows, recording with “Of Earth” formed by Sebastian Bach / Spread Eagle bassist Rob DeLuca, started a music school, his project Supercel and toured with Gloria Gaynor. Newman went on to produce, film score and music supervise across and array or projects. while doing extensive work with Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields and many other artists across the indie rock spectrum. With Empire Records achieving a cult status as the soundtrack to a generation, PLEASE is taking its’ lead from this surprising momentum and climbing out of its’ hiatus .
