Biography & Metadata

Marcelo was born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro in february 23rd, 1969. He has started his musical studies at age of 8 at La Salle School Orchestra, and after that, attended musical theory at Music Conservatory of Rio de Janeiro. He had also saxophone/Jazz private lessons with sax/flutist Renato Franco. Studied harmony with Sergio Benevenuto; Harmony and arrangements with trombone player/arranger Vittor Santos. He has worked with such Brazilian artists as: Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Antonio Adolfo, Arthur Maia, Djavan, Eumir Deodato, Gilberto Gil, João Bosco, Leila Pinheiro, Marcos Valle, Ricardo Silveira, Torcuato Mariano and Ivan Lins; Marcelo has been working with singer/composer Djavan from 1990 to 2017; USA Tour with singer/composer Gilberto Gil 1999; A tour with singer Flora Purim, percussionist Airto Moreira 2003 and 2007; Toured with singer/composer Ivan Lins from 2007 to 2020; Concert “A Journey to Brazil – the Music of Moacir Santos (Jazz at Lincoln Center, NY, May 2010) - From The New York Times MUSIC REVIEW: http://nyti.ms/ah9Wny Marcelo coleaded the instrumental Group "FOCO", whose second Cd called “Tempo Bom com Chuva” was released by Dubas Musica Record Label He's released in 2013 his first solo CD, “Do Outro Lado”; It was elected by the journalist Carlos Calado as one among the best realases of the year; Today, Marcelo coleads with Jessé Sadoc, (trumpet) Aldivas Ayres (bone), Danilo Sinna (Alt sx) the “Orquestra Atlântica” Brazilian SambaJazz ensemble;
