Biography & Metadata

„What happens next, what are the next steps?“ are the first lines on Fram í rauðan dauðann, JóiPé‘s first solo album which is set to release on October 21st. Jói has worked night and day for the past three years to answer those questions but the response is clear. JóiPé has arrived and the future is bright. After ruling the charts for years as part of duo JóiPé & Króli, Jói is breaking out on his own and establishing his own sound. The album was produced by jazz and pop producers Magnús Jóhann and Hafsteinn Þráinnsson and of course JóiPé himself. influenced by the likes of To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar, the trio set out to find ways to capture traditional hip hop sounds while mixing them with more organic elements such as a string quartet, saxophone, live drums and more. The result is a harmonious amalgamation of both the digital and the living, the hard and the poetic - a 10-song magnum opus set to make its mark on Icelandic music history and solidifying JóiPé as one of the country’s most innovative contemporary artists.
