Biography & Metadata

Phillip Mitchell is no stranger to new beginnings. Raised in Connecticut by Jamaican and Grenadian parents, the young artist absorbed the energy from nearby scenes like a sponge, from New York City to Toronto. This hectic East Coast existence didn’t stop him from growing up as an aspiring athlete, academic, and occasional songwriter. But, it didn’t take long before a bullet forced him to reevaluate his purpose. So he began again. Releasing music to moderate local acclaim under a different alias for years, Phil blazed an independent trail with a series of freestyles, singles, and other projects. His approach was “in-the-moment”, introducing the developing MC to a sort of freedom he’d never experienced before. But, he soon started to feel an urgency to pursue more structure, collaboration, and ambition in his art. So he began again. In early 2021, 4KPHIL. was born. The rapper self-released his first single under his current name, catching the attention of Paperjack Productions founder soupy2k. Phil quickly found a home in the Minneapolis-based label as an early member of its dynamic roster. He has executively produced projects like his mixtape Pay-Per-View and his debut album Actions Speak Louder. And after a string of singles and collaborative EPs, he’s ready to make his sophomore statement. So he begins again.
