Biography & Metadata

TRANS VOICES blend meditative soundscapes, choral tradition, emerging technology, and bold vocal experimentation to reclaim spaces where trans perspective are rarely heard. The creative organisation was founded by Ilā Kamalagharan, ILĀ and Coda Nicolaeff as part of the London Contemporary Voices family. Prominent TRANS VOICES partnerships span the specially commissioned Guardian documentary Reclaim, the award-winning Absolut #borntomix campaign with Olly Alexander, the Roundhouse's Beyond and Between season alongside Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fashion Freak Show, and SXSW London co-curation. TRANS VOICES has delivered bespoke performances at Tate Britain, Barbican Conservatory, Kew Gardens, and amid Turner Prize winner Jesse Darling’s Miserere. In summer 2025, TRANS VOICES debuted UN/BOUND as part of the Barbican Centre’s flagship summer exhibition Feel the Sound, an immersive holographic sound installation shaped by quantum technology and artificial intelligence that questions what is sacrificed and what is reclaimed in the pursuit of liberation and self-determination. Recently reworked for wider listening, UN/BOUND is available to stream now.
