Biography & Metadata

Seagarden is an indie rock band in the purest sense. With chiming guitars, retro keys, and a rocksteady rhythm section, this Rhode Island five-piece brings the sounds of the English indie rock heyday to New England. It's retro and forward thinking at the same time, something familiar and fresh simultaneously. Whatever it is, it's too cool to miss. Seagarden emerged from the ashes of a previous band, Friday Life. Formed in 2017, the band made serious waves throughout New England for the better part of a decade before the lineup shrank to two members. Those two members, brothers Jack (Vocals, Guitar) and Brendan Downey (Keys) decided against reforming the band, electing instead to sail uncharted waters. The new name came about because Jack wanted something that evoked nature, particular the sea, and since Brendan liked it, it stuck. Finding other members proved to be difficult. Eventually, however, the ball started rolling after Jack reached out to his friend, Jacob Iacobucci, about playing drums for the band. Jacob enthusiastically agreed, and practices started taking place at his house. Next, Boston guitarist Liam Numrich agreed to join the band after Jack sent him a message. Finally, Evan Starr, Brendan's bandmate in an 80's cover band, moved into the bassist position. With the lineup solidified, Seagarden released its debut single, "Motive for Your Crime," in May of 2025.
