Jonathan Rivers

Jonathan Rivers is an artist specializing in a blend of traditional lofi, boom bapish grooves, and carefully selected samples of various musical flavors. He is traditionally rooted in jazz, picking up the alto saxophone at the age of 8, later expanding to guitar, bass, and drums. He credits this, and most importantly, a soulful, groove, boom bap, and funk filled upbringing in Akron, Ohio as shaping his sound. He was also a student of Technomusicology at Harvard University led by Dr. Wayne Marshall. He studied a range of artists and innovators in sound from Grand Master Flash, John Philip Sousa, Clyde Stubblefield, James Brown, Bobby Byrd, and Glenn Gould, to Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Pete Rock, J Dilla, the Beatles, and more. Through their works, and reflections, he was exposed to sampling, looping, mixing, mashup and production tools and techniques, further shaping his sound today. As of writing, he’s a “self proclaimed” moonlighting bedroom producer, under the “Stay Breaded House of Music” label, where he shares a genuine passion for music with his wife Telia, and sons Jelani, and Waylon.
