Biography & Metadata

Joe Ariwa (born Joseph Fraser, mid-1980s) is a London-based dub producer, sound engineer, and live performance specialist. He is the eldest son of legendary reggae and dub pioneer Mad Professor, founder of the iconic Ariwa Studios. Growing up, Joe was surrounded by reggae legends, analog tape machines and dub culture. This helped Joe naturally absorb responsibilities of the music business from an early age. A pivotal moment came in 2012, when Joe teamed up with General Levy, producing the dubstep-inspired Ramp Wid Di Riddim and full album @Be Conscious & Wise. Since then, they consistantly toured widely across the UK, Europe, Brazil, and Australia. This helped Joe enter the drum & bass circuit, becoming an in-demand road manager, DJ, and live sound engineer. In 2015, Joe produced Randy Valentine’s acclaimed album Still Pushing, including standout tracks Wake the Town and Mama Said. Joe plays a central role in managing the Ariwa label, handling everything from mixing and engineering to stock control and vinyl distribution. In 2022–2023, Joe re-launched the Ariwa Posse, an umbrella project supporting new talent.
