Black Hibiscus

“I make music in the ways I want to see the world,” says Nigerian-born, Brooklyn-based artist and producer, Black Hibiscus. His genre-defying sound merges Alternative R&B, psychedelic rock, lo-fi pop, and soul-inflected hip-hop into a deeply personal body of work that reflects emotional complexity, artistic freedom, and spiritual growth. Originally from Nigeria, he moved to Georgia at age 13 before settling in New York in 2023. Since launching the Black Hibiscus project during the pandemic, he has released four official projects — Tangerine Days (2020), The End of the World (2022), Fast Love (2023), and Growing Pains (2024) — each one expanding his sonic and visual vocabulary while maintaining a DIY foundation. Sable Hibiscus, the duo of artists moye & Black Hibiscus, met in high school and meshed over their appreciation of concept albums like Blonde, GKMC, and Chocolate Pushkin. With both artists singing, producing, and rapping, the pair evades easy categorisation, blending their shared love for Alternative R&B, Contemporary Hip-Hop, and Experimental Oldies. Vol 1: ad æternum finds both artists navigating darker themes and confronting their sonic influences as they embark toward new creative ground.
